Drug and Alcohol Program

In accordance with DOT requirements of 49 CFR PART 382 & 49 CFR PART 40, your company may be required to enroll in a DOT Drug Program that includes alcohol testing for CDL drivers. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and the Department of Transportation (US DOT) mandate that CDL drivers and their employers adhere to drug and alcohol testing rules. These regulations detail procedures for testing, the frequency of tests, and the substances tested for, including alcohol and drugs.

Who is required?

- CDL drivers operating commercial motor vehicles on public roads

- Employers who hire CDL drivers to operate commercial motor vehicles

- Interstate motor carriers

- Intrastate motor carriers

- Federal, State, and local governments

- Civic organizations (such as those transporting disabled veterans, boy/girl scouts, etc.)

- Faith-based organizations

DRIVERS

Even though it is the employer's responsibility to inform you about drug and alcohol testing programs, ultimately, it remains your duty to comply with all rules and regulations regarding alcohol testing for CDL drivers.

EMPLOYER WHO IS ALSO THE DRIVER

An employer who also drives must meet the requirements of 49 CFR Part 382, which apply to both employers and drivers.

- $50 for Alcohol Testing for CDL Drivers

- $65 for Pre-employment testing

- $65 for all other drug tests, including reasonable suspicion and post-accident testing

- $75 for Supervisory training (if you have employees)
